So right before an important meeting this morning at work, I felt SUPER sick to my tummy. I spoke too soon on the "I've been feeling fine" thing. After a cracker and some water, I was pretty okay. I only left the meeting once. Gotta schedule those meetings in the afternoon. Hope this doesn't keep happening.
Lately, I've had the strong feeling that we're going to have a boy. Before I was pregnant, I always thought I'd have a girl, and I "felt" it then as well. Now, I'm not so sure. We will find out the sex of the baby the second week of June, so I have a long time to wait.
Also, I'm very excited that my cousin Derek got engaged on Sunday to his girlfriend Jayce. She's great. That wedding will be in July, and someone mentioned that it might be outside. Great. Fat, pregnant lady sweating in a huge dress. Ha. It will be great though. Crazy to see Derek in love. Everyone's so happy for him, and I'm sure his mom's ready to plan stuff!
We're home this weekend again. I really like being at home for the weekends. Friday night is Luke's company's (T3) Annual April Fool's Day soiree. I hear it's all glitz and glamour. Too bad no "spirits" will be had by me. But, I'm sure the food will suffice! Saturday, we're having lunch with Joel Goudeau (little bro of Jonathan and Jared) to see his portfolio and give him career tips. It's really amazing that people are coming to us for that kind of stuff. He seems like a great kid. We're also looking for furniture Saturday - a desk for the bedroom, and our bedroom furniture. If we don't get it now, we'll never get it, and I really need a desk to work from at home. Sunday is what I'm looking forward to. POTLUCK with our care group. Mmmmm ... Our care group leaders (David and Merry Culp) have a fabulous house with a stereo system that goes outside, all through the house, etc. We like to play theme music for whatever dinner we're having. Sunday's a Mexican Fiesta. Let the Tejano begin.

Rachel, the Hemoglobin-Tester
I think it's so cool that my sister is getting all educated on the ways of the body and how it can stay healthy. Take this picture:

She's actually getting blood from someone. My sister. I still picture her as the little girl who wouldn't get off the trampoline when I wanted her to. Now, she's so smart. "Skooling" me on the nutritional supplements I should be getting while pregnant, and sending me information in the mail that I actually read and didn't know anything about. Even when to start feeding your baby solid foods. Man. I have a long way to go. But, I'm not worried. I have my own personal RD (registered dietitian).

Weekend Update
Luke and I had a very productive weekend. Went to a birthday dinner for Luke with Matt and Candi Tenbush at Chez Zee in Austin. Boy, that's a great place to eat. Very unique atmosphere and AMAZING chocolate cake. We'll go back there, if our friends EVER come to visit us! My mom is coming into town next weekend for a conference, so maybe we'll go there. Of course, we will have to go to the new Whole Foods. Mmmm ...
We also completely cleaned out our closet (both had a bunch of fat clothes, but I kept some of mine:) as well as the laundry room. Nothing is on the washer or dryer now. It was starting to gross me out. Then, I finished defensive driving online. How painful that was!
I told my work that I'm expecting today, and they were all very excited. It was good. They are the last group on my list, so everyone knows now. Whew. Finally. I need to work out a work-from-home plan so we'll know what to expect. I think it shouldn't be much of a problem. I'm feeling a little more excited now and a little less in denial about the whole situation. Can't wait!
I think I ran a little too hard this morning. I was feeling gross and out of shape and wanted to run. Dr. says it's okay for now, but my back has started to hurt. Guess it's about time to be done with that! I also had this crazy allergic reaction on my face this weekend. My eyelids were basically swollen shut Sunday morning, but I took some Benadryl (on the list of approved meds) and it's a lot better today. Weird. That's never happened to me before, so I need to call the Dr. and make sure I'm not going to die or anything. This pregnancy jazz is already taking it's toll on the body. It'll all be worth it though!
I promise to have more pictures up here soon. Just of stuff, memories, etc.

Weird sickness has hit
Well, this morning I feel really nauseous and have a headache. Worst I've felt yet. But, I'm at work since all of the bosses are out. Someone's got to hold this fort down. I'll probably leave at noon if I don't feel any better.
Yesterday, I absolutely had to have Grape Nuts cereal and some grapes. I think there's a theme here. So, before I got to work, I went to HEB in Georgetown and bought some. Then, ate cereal and grapes at work. People thought I was crazy. No one at work knows yet, so we'll see what they say when they find that I have a method to my madness.
So this work thing. I'm a little worried about how it's going to work out. Hope I'm not going to be a bad mom. It's just that if I quit, we'd be losing about half of our income and free insurance for me and the baby. Hard to pass up. And, they're pretty flexible here, so I think I'll be able to work a lot from home. We'll just wait and see what they say. Hate all of this waiting stuff. Lots of moms work, so I think it'll be okay. It'll have to be I suppose!
Not much else to say. I just haven't made an update in a few. Today is LUKE'S BIRTHDAY! We're going to stay in tonight and watch TV, and of course eat. I think I'm going to make a roast, or something domestic like that. They delivered his cookies and milk a DAY EARLY yesterday (Tiff's Treats downtown in Austin has a cool cookie delivery thing going) for his brithday, so they're delivering them to his office again today. Hope he brings some home. :)
I think I'll go to Old Navy and buy some maternity clothes on sale later on today as well. Gotta stock up while I can. Can't wait to be fat-ter.

The Tree
In the midst of all of the excitement, I forgot to post the new tree like I promised.

Our other one died somehow, and this new one is bigger than that one was already. It's a Red Oak. Lots of leaves.

The Hejloween Baby
I’m so glad I finally get to publish this for all to see …
I’M EIGHT WEEKS PREGNANT!

Whew. That felt good. Luke and I have been keeping the secret for about a month now, and it’s been eating us (mostly him) away. We are so pumped, and a little scared, but excited nonetheless. We told Luke’s parents on March 10, and my parents and family this weekend, and everyone was pretty floored. It was cool. First grandchild for my parents, and great grandchild for my dad’s parents. So, I’d say it’s a big deal. I'm due on Oct. 30.
We didn’t think it would happen so quickly, so it caught me off guard when I started feeling a little achy and weird during Sing Song weekend in February. We had been trying to get pregnant since late December, (all along we’ve been planning to start trying in Jan. ’05) so I figured it would take a few months. Boy was I wrong. We are fertile myrtles, so to speak.
We got home after Sing Song and the achy feeling and bloatedness still remained. I didn’t want to take a pregnancy test until the right day, so I waited until Wednesday night after work, Feb. 23, before I left to teach the sixth graders at church. I bought one, took it at home, took the dog out with me to get the mail, came back, and … TWO PINK LINES. I didn’t believe it. I was so shocked – I didn’t really know how to feel. Plus, no one was home, so I was yelling and jumping with no one – just the cat and me. I felt cool.
Since then, we’ve had to sort of take it all in. I haven’t been really sick or anything, maybe a little nauseous at times, and feeling VERY bloated, indigestionish, and fat, but that’s it. I have a lot of achiness in my back and abdomen area, but they way that’s my uterus stretching. Gross. However, I do have certain food aversions and cravings, which I had hoped I wouldn’t have. My all time favorite lunch place, Chipotle, no longer sounds good to me at all. I used to not be able to get enough of it, but now, it’s over for the time being. Just the thought of that rice makes me cringe. But, I’m weirdly craving fried chicken and chicken strips. I’ve wanted to cave so many times, but just end up getting a grilled chicken sandwich. If Luke knew I ate anything fried, he’d go nuts. Such a health nut, he is. I mostly live on sandwiches (which I just found out that I can’t eat lunchmeat anymore – AGH!), soup from home, or basically any soup, and anything that sounds good that’s remotely non-fattening. Weirdly, once I eat something, anything different, I don’t ever want to eat it again within the next couple of weeks. Nothing really tastes good, but I eat anyway. Shocker.
We went to the doctor last Thursday afternoon (St. Patty’s Day, lucky) and got to do the whole nine yards. Testing, uncomfortable situations for Luke, etc. Then, we had an ultrasound and got to see the 1.32 cm-long baby and the itty-bitty heartbeat. SUPER fascinating. Everything looks good, according to the Dr. That’s a relief. We go back on April 19 after our cruise. Yes, cruise. Seven days on Royal Caribbean to Key West, Cozumel and Grand Cayman. Woo-hoo. Guess this is our last fling as DINKS. (Double Income No Kids) However, the “No” will only be changing to “With,” so we’ll see how that goes.
I’m mostly scared of gaining weight right now. I’ve already gained two pounds (just in my thighs, I feel like) in the past few weeks according to the doctor, although I’m still working out about four or five times a week. Hope this weight comes off soon after the birth. Scary. Speaking of scary – I’ll be major pregnant in the hot Austin summer, and I’ll have to wear a swimsuit at some point. Again, gross.
Anyway, we’re excited. Can’t wait to update you guys on what’s going on at the Hejl household. First things first – get the rest of the teddy bear wallpaper off of the computer room wall, and I guess, move the computer somewhere …

Trying to post pictures
Let's see if this works.

Sweet. This is the only picture of me on my computer - from the GX Website (my company). Sweet. Now I'll have to put up our tree we just planted. Yay!

Now I'm Cool
Figured I'd make my second update to the Hejl blog. I know, I know. I'm not as cool as the Watterson blog, but I figured this would be a good place to update people anyway. So there.
Had my ACU class last night. These kids are not as excited as my last group of kids. I'm pretty sure I'm not teaching this again next semester, or year for that matter. Joyce Hailey just got her masters and lives in Abilene, so she'll take over. I'm always a good back up. It's been an amazing learning experience, and something really good to put on my resume for the future.
My immediate family - Mom, Dad, Rach, George, Luke and me - are going to see Alison Krauss and Union Station in Dallas this Friday night. Weirdly, I am SO excited to see this concert. I haven't been a fan of this bluegrassy band for a very long time. I liked a couple of their songs, bought a few CDs, and I was hooked. Her voice is so effortless. I dig it. Anyway, it's going to be a fun weekend. We'll probably go shopping on Sat. with the girls, and Sunday we're going to the farm to shoot guns. How hic of us. It's nice out there though - no noise or cars. Austin is so noisy sometimes with all of the construction - we forget why we live here. But, we go to the lake or drive down 360, and remember why.
Luke and I are going to see our friend Claire's bagpipe band at Mother Egan's on St. Patty's Day Thursday night. Should be fun. She's Scottish, not Irish, though I'm not sure what that means for her. Jeffrey's birthday (Luke's bro) is also on St. Patty's Day, so we're going over there for dinner.
Not just a ton going on lately. Rachel and Luke's birthdays are next week, so we'll party hardy then too. Mostly, my life is only made crazy with work. Luke's the same way. But our jobs now are WAY better than our old ones, so we have a lot to be thankful for. Signing off for now.

New Hejl Blog
Hello to all. I thought I'd start this since I communicate with my friends in this way, and Watterson turned me onto it. It's a fabulously free way to let everyone know what's going on in the lives of me, Luke, and I guess Joey and Phoebe (dog and cat, respectively).
I always have so many pictures that I take and don't put up anywhere, so I'm going to start putting pictures up on this site for people to look at. We need to buy our own URL, but Luke says I need to wait and see if I'm actually going to use this Web stuff a lot to communicate. Then, we'll start a Website and server, etc. Guess we will see. I'll let you know.
Not much news as of today. I'm at work right now, about to go to lunch. Jay and Ally Ocheskey are coming into Austin this weekend to see Ally's brother's baseball games at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock. They will be staying with us, and bringing two dogs. We'll see how Joey fares.
I might let Luke add stuff to this, but we'll see if he's responsible enough. Ha. More to come.
